favorite old comics moments
Ah, those were the days! Here's one of my favorite moments from the old Batman comic. There was just something about the "golden age" that we moderns lack. Well, what can you do. Anyway, I thought I'd share this since many people skip ahead directly to the Frank Miller/Jim Lee version, and forget all the history that came before...

When I posted it at TCJ, the artist Coop said Robin looked like an adult midget. And that the security guards, if they stood up, would tower over the bank like giants.
This "Blogger" interface can be very frustrating.
Wow, very authentic indeed. But Coop has something there, about the size issues. I thought at first that the bank was like a 3-foot-high wall.
But the blacks are very convincing, where the plain black is overlapped (supposedly) by the colored inks. It looks just like the old comics!
Oh, and the idea in that linked image is also pretty realistic, in its bizarreness.

There are a few refinements that could be made even yet on the coloring. My "paintbucket" fill patterns don't have enough variety to match the actual printed comics. They start to "loop" and lose the more random look of the comics. But at a certain point my abilities/ obsessiveness reached a limit.
That kind of idea, it's like the Nincy strip.. It's so stupid, but something about the dogmatic insistence, putting it forward with a straight face, kind of mesmerizes me.
